I have an olpc xo laptop which I am fond of. It is a quirky thing with many limitations best suited for use as an educational appliance. That's what it was designed to be. But many North Americans got one through a deal where if you paid for two, you could have one, and one would be sent to some kid somewhere in a developing nation or something. We silly North Americans think that the xo should behave like a laptop, perhaps because it was originally marketed as 'The hundred dollar laptop'. We hack away at it trying to subvert its design to get it to work the way we think a laptop should work. One of the limitations is its scant one gigabyte of storage. Fortunately, it also has a slot for an SD card. I got an 8 GB SD card and moved my /home directory to it. Here are instructions. |
